Detail Itinerary :

Day 01) Delhi - Chandigarh -  Shimla (2206 mts.) / 04 hrs drive / on hotel

Arrive Chandigarh by Train/flight  and drive to Shimla

The British discovered Shimla in the form of a little village in 1819 during the Anglo-Gorkha war. When war broke afresh in 1819, the British took the place with its cool and healthy climate. Here was installed a village of tents, where the heat weary British military and civil officers came to rest and the first house built in 1822, is regarded to be “Kennedy House” which was the residence of Charles Pratt Kennedy, the newly appointed political officer to the hill states. In 1864 under the Viceroyalty of John Lawrence, Shimla was officially declared the Summer Capital of British Empire in India (April to October). - a status is retained upto Indian Independence in 1947. After the independence of India, Shimla became the capital of Punjab until 1966, when it came under Himachal Pradesh. In 1971 Himachal Pradesh became a full fledged state and Shimla became the capital of this state.

In 1947, the decision to partition India and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), was taken here. After independence 1947, building became the property of the President of India and was renamed Rashtrapati Niwas. Day 03) Shimla - Thanedar (2350 mts.)  / 85 km / o/n Camp

Ride to Thanedar enroute visit

Narkanda(2708 mts.):  Narkanda is situated 64 Km north of Shimla at an elevation of 2,708 m. about and is accessible through Theog and Matiana. The route goes through picturesque scenery from there is a splendid view of the snow peaked range of the Inner Himalayas. Hattu Peak is the highest peak in Narkanda at a height of 3,300 m and 08 km far from Narkanda.  One finds a striking panorama of the plains below and the surrounding snow bastions on the sky line.

Later visit Hatu Peak:  Hatu Peak is an adventurous trek which starts from Narkanda offers splendid views of the snow clad Himalayan peaks. Hatu peak trek is also a good weekend trek if one is planning for night out camping.

For the rulers of the erstwhile hill states, Hatu Peak was of great strategic importance because of its commanding position. It was accepted as a boundary between the states. The Gorkhas captured it early in the 19th century and established a fort at the top of Hatu Peak. Later, the British ousted them from the Hatu heights.

The peak can be accessed by a bike or a car or on foot. At the top of the peak, the verdant views of the mountains around and Hatu Mata temple grace the travelers with their majestic presence. Overall the 7-k-long stretch from Narkanda to Hatu Peak takes close to 3 hours to trek.

Hatu is famous for its ski slopes. A sub-centre of the Mountaineering and Allied Sports Institute at Manali runs adventure activities here, and ski equipment is available in winter. Thanedar and Kotgarh near Narkanda form the apple heartland of Himachal. Samuel Stokes, an American, introduced apple cultivation here in 1905.

Tani Jubbar Lake: Tani Jubbar Lake is an oval shaped, artificially fed, shallow mass of water located near Narkanda. The water body is encircled by a paved pathway, flanked by gentle slopes, covered with pine and spruce trees. The lake is home to several exotic birds. This virtually stamp-sized mountain lake is surrounded by fringed, cedar forests that make for an idyllic picnic setting. Encapsulate in the mesmerizing beauty of the snow covered Himalayan ranges that are clearly seen from this lookout point. There are clearing near the lake for travelers to pitch their tents who wish to stay the night camping and star gazing. Walk 15-minutes downhill to the traditional, quaint village of Mailan with an extremely friendly, small population of villagers. It is also one of the last few surviving temples made entirely of timber.

Lanka Vir Temple, Situated next door to the Bhimakali temple, this was where human sacrifices were made long ago to please Goddess Bhimakali. The bodies were apparently thrown into the well nearby.

Once in Sarahan, one beholds a range of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks and one of them is the Shrikhand Peak. The rather peculiar thing about this peak is that it is only one, whose tip remains uncovered with snow. In the evening, sunrays adorn the peaks and the sight is simply stupendous.
