The trek, going from Kinnaur to Spiti, is popularly called the Bhaba Pass trek. The pass, however, has different names on various maps. The trek can be done in 04 days and the technican lever during the summer is relatively easy. Conditions can, however change according ti the amount of anow during winter. During this trek you will be rewarded by the experience of luch green forest, various wildlife, alpine flowers, amazing panorama towards the Kinnaur Mountains from the Bhaba Pass and beautiful geological formations in the Pin Valley(Spiti).

Detail Itinerary :

Day 01) Shimla – Waangtu - Kafnoo(2850 m) /  07 hrs drive / O/n  Camp

The drive goes through the beautiful landscape of Kinnaur to reach Kafnoo, the starting point of the trek.

Overnight stay at Camp.


Day 02)  Kafnoo(Trek Starts) – Mulling(3450 m)  / 5-6 hrs trek /  o/n Camp

Trek through the the Mustrang Village and dense forests of Pine, Cedar and Birch. After a few hours of steep climb the path gradually ascends to the campsite, a lush green meadow on the banks of the River Bhaba.

Day 03) Mulling – Base of Bhaba Pass (4180 m) / 06 hrs trek /  o/n Camp

After breakfast we set off by crossing the river by a natural boulder bridge – the trail today is approximately 8 kms and climbs gradually until we reach the meadow at Kara. Along the way we may lucky enough to encounter nomadic Gaddi shepherds in their traditional dress tending their flocks. And trek further to Pushtring , our take us to the foot of the Bhaba pass – a walk of 9 kms.  From Kara , It’s a steep path that follows the left bank of the river till we reach or campground for the night at Phustrirang. From here stunning views of Kinnauri landscape can be seen including Hansbeshan Peak (5840 m) which dominates the skyline.


Day 04) Base - Bhaba Pass(4910 m) – Baldhar(4050m) / 08 hrs trek / o/n Camp

Today the day starts with the climb up to the Bhaba Pass also known as Tari Khango – there are many spectacular views along the way and in the distance we should be able to spot the Pin Parvati Pass another popular trekking route. Descending down towards Bara Bulder there is a marked change in the landscape from the alpine meadows of the last few days to the brown desert like slopes of the Valley.

Day 05) Baldhar – Mudh – Sagnam(3500m) (Trek Ends)  / o/n Camp

After breakfast we continue to walk down the left bank of the river to Mudh – a distance of around 11km. Here the valley is broad and the terrain very rocky with very little vegetation. Mudh is an enchanting little hamlet with a small gompa perched on a hill, which is where our campsite for the night is to be found. Muth is the first Spiti village. It houses about 30 to 40 families.

Day 06) Sangam – Kungri –Tabo (3050 mts.) 04  hrs drive. o/n hotel

Pin Valley / Kungri Monastery: The valley lies below the Kungri glacier. The Pin valley has a National Park, and is home to a variety of rare animals like the Ibex, Snow Lepord, Thar and Bharal. There are several monasteries in the valley but the most important one is Kungri. It is situated about 10 km from Attargo and 34 Km from Kaza. It built in 1330 AD. this houses old relics and painting and is the main centre of the Nyingma-pa sect in Spiti.

Tabo: Tabo Monastery: It is situated at village Tabo at a height of 3280m lying in the Spiti valley near the Tibetan (Chinese) border just north of the Satluj River. The Tabo Gompa is the largest monastery complex of Buddhist religion.

This has been declared as a protected monument. It was built in A.D. 996 by Ringchen Zangpo and has been declared as the place where the current Dalai Lama will retire. Its sculptures, stucco images and wall paintings are similar to the Ajanta-Ellora paintings.

Day 7) Tabo – Dankar – Lalung - Kaza (3600 mts.) / 4 hrs drive. o/n hotel

Drive to Kaza on the way visit Kungri  Dhankar and after noon visit Ki and Kibber .

Dhankhar Monastery: 7km from the turn-off at Schichling and 32 Km from Tabo on the Tabo –Kaza highway situated at a height of 3370m. The Dhankar Gompa was built nearly 1000 years ago and has seen many upheavals in its history, from being the capital of Spiti to that of a jail... Around 1 km away is a new monastery, which is worth a visit in the local parlance a “Dhankhar’ is a fort and that is why this monastery once was a fort. Perched high over the valley, it is a superb example of Spiti’s traditional architectural skills. It was once the castle of the ruler of spiti, the Nono and today it is a repository of Buddhist scriptures in the Bhoti script.

Lhalung: After an hour-long drive from Dhankar the valley opens up a little for the rich pastures of Lhalung village, consisting of barley and the yellow rape that adds another beautiful colour to the reduced palette of Spiti.

Day 8) Kaza Local / o/n hotel

Local Kaza Sight seeing visit Ki monastery and Kibber Village and afternoon free

Ki Monastery: Situated in Spiti about 11 kms from Kaza was founded by Dromton (1008-64 A.D), the founder of the Ge-lug-pa sect in the 11th century. On the left bank of the Spiti River the Ki Gompa (4116) is regarded as the largest and the oldest monastery in the sub-division.  Thousands of devotees from all over the world here attended the Kalachakra ceremony which was performed in August, 2000 by His Holiness Dalai Lama.

Kibber: Kibber is 11 km from Ki Gompa, and is the highest settlement in the world (4205 meters) with a motorable road and electricity. The Ladarcha festival held here each July attracts Buddhists from all over the world.

Day 09)  Kaza – Manali(2050m) / 09 hrs Drive/ o/n hotel         

After breakfast drive from Kaza to Manali.

On the road from Kaza to Manali is Kunzam, a mountain pass at an attitude of 4551 meters, with a temple of Kunzam Devi. One can also trek from here to the famous and beautiful moon lake Chandratal (4070 m). Asia's biggest glaciers, Bada and Chotta Sigri, can be seen from here.

The Rohtang Pass, in the northern parts of India, is a site where one can view the most drastic of landscape variances. On one side, the lush green head of the Kullu Valley; to the other, an awesome vista of bare, brown mountains, hanging glaciers and snowfields that dazzle in the crisp light. The tough terrain here is the main reason behind its virginal landscapes and simple lifestyles.

Reach Manali

Manali, one of India’s most famous hill stations, derives its name from Manu and Alaya, who came here for the renewal of the life after battling a deluge for forty days and nights. Manali (2050 mts.) is situated left bank of river Beas on the National Highway to Leh. This is the main town in the Kullu valley which is famous for its apples. Manali is also famous for adventure sports like trekking, mountaineering, paragliding skiing, hiking, mountain biking and rafting etc.
