Route : Delhi-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Barkot-Yamunotri-Uttarkashi-Gangotri- Haridwar-Delhi

Do Dham yatra means the yatra of two Dhams out of four Dhams there are four Dhams in Uttarakhand. Chardham Yatra is the most popular spiritual tour in Uttarakhand, Northern India starting from April-May and continues till Oct-Nov every year. It comprises four pilgrim-destinations namely Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, collectively known as Char Dham. Hindu religion recommends that everyone should embark on this holy pilgrimage at least once in their lives. That’s the reason why the four Dhams, namely  Yamunotri,  GangotriKedarnathBadrinath are heavily flocked by pilgrims during the travel season.

Char Dham Yatra commences from Yamunotri, then proceeding to Gangotri and finally to Kedarnath and Badrinath. Each of these four sites is devoted to a specific deity. Yamunotri is dedicated to the Goddess Yamuna. Gangotri is dedicated to the Goddess Ganga. The shrine overlooks the River Bhagirathi, another name of River Ganga.  Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is also a part of the Panch Kedar. It is the northernmost Jyotirlinga and is close to the source of the holy River Mandakini. Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is situated on the bank of the River Alaknanda

The Yamunotri Temple and Gangotri Temple open on the day of Akshaya Tritiya every year (April or May)followed by the portal opening of Kedarnath Temple and Badrinath Temple after a couple of days.

Yamunotri and Kedarnath Dham close on Yama Dwitiya/Bhai Dooj(Oct or Nov) whereas the Gangotri Dham closes on the day of Diwali(Oct or Nov). And the door of Badrinath temple closes on the day of Vijay Dashami(Oct or Nov).

The gates are open for a mere period of only 6 months due to extreme weather conditions in the Himalayas. The idols are shifted from the temple to other areas, and the gates are closed.
