The trek from Lamayuru to Padum is housed in the beautiful kingdom of Zanskar, a trekker's delight. The trail of our trek dips into some of the remotest areas, cradled by the Himalayas and the Indus Valley. Along with unmatched beauty, the trek promises you 14 days of uninterrupted bliss and tranquility in the laps of nature. Though the trail is an isolated one, you can feel the ancient cultures and traditions reflected in the handful of Zanskari villages, monasteries, and gompas that we pass. In fact, the trail from Lamayuru begins from the sacred Lamayuru Monastery, and snakes through beautiful forests and alpine meadows. Other characteristic of this trek include lovely high meadow camp sites on the cold and dry desert land, the thrill of passing through high passes and the joy of espying snowcapped peaks amidst stunning scenery. Not to forget the Buddhist monasteries and picturesque villages replete with irrigated fields of barley and potatoes. Leh Palace: Leh Palace is one of the major attractions in ladakh. The palace was built in the 17th century and had nine storeys , but it is now dilapidated and deserted. It was the home of the royal family until they were exiled to Stok in the 1830s. Above the palace, at the top of the Namgyal hill, is the Victory Tower, built to commemorate Ladakh's victory over the Balti Kashmir armies in the early 16th century. This palace built for King Singge Namgyal.

Hemis: 47 Kms from Leh on the west bank of the Indus, the position of Hemis monastery lying in a small isolated valley south of the Indus, belies its importance.  As headquarters of the Drukpa (Old Buddhist) order, it administers monasteries throughout the whole Ladakh - from the Indus to the Zanskar valley and from the Markha to the Sumdah valley.  Hemis was established at the behest of Senge Namgyal in the early 17th century and since than has enjoyed the patronage of the royal family of Ladakh.  It provides monks as caretaker for royal monasteries at the Basgo, Leh and Shey palaces.

Shey: Situated on a hillock 15 km south of Leh, was once the residence of the royal family & it was constructed by the first king of Ladakh, Lhachen Palgyigon. According to tradition, it was the seat of power of the pre-Tidetan kings. Around 12 Ft. Shakyamuni Buddha's statue made by copper guilt is the largest in the region, built by Deldan Namgyal in 1633 is a funerary memorial to his father, king Singee Namgyal. There is another statue of the Buddha three stories in height.Stone carving and many chortens are scattered around the Dresthang Gompa.

Thiksey: 18 Kms from Leh is the most beautiful of all monasteries in Ladakh, belongs to the Gelukpa order. Thiksey was part of the original Delgupta order in the 15th century.  The monk's quarter's stretch right the way along the hillside beneath the main assembly hall.  The library at Thiksy is supposedly one of the finest in Ladakh and a multi - denominations Gompa has recently been constructed - proof indeed of the continuing vitality of Buddhism in Ladakh.
