Malana is nestled high in the beautiful mountains of Parvati valley whose people are said to be the descendants of Alexandra the Great. The Malana Chanderkhani Pass trek begins at Naggar after a short drive from Manali of the left bank of River Beas. While traversing on the Chanderkhani you get mesmerized by the surrounding beauty. A 360 panoramic view – to the north twin peaks of Deo Tibba and Indrasan, to the west Dhauladhar mountain range, to the east peaks of Dharamsura and Papsura and to the south lower green hills of Kullu and Parvati valley.After crossing the Chanderkhani Pass (3600m), this trek gets to the Malana village, famous for its distinct and very reserved social culture. Care and respect for local customs is essential.

Detail Itinerary :

 

Day 01) Manali – Naggar –(Trek Starts) Rumsu(2377 m) / 01 hour drive and 3 hours trek

Drive to Naggar, 26 Km from Kullu. Delightfully situated on a wooded slope and commanding an extensive view of the valley, it is famous for its temples, ancient castle and the Roerich Art Gallery. And our first day trek starts from Naggar to Rumsu. Proper village mule path leads to Rumsu Village. Located above Naggar town. 

Overnight stay at Camp.


Day 02) Rumsu – Cheddu Pathar(3500 m)  / 3-4 Hours trek 

Climb for 3-4 hours and reach to the Camp site at Cheddu Pathar.

Day 03) Cheddu Pathar- Chandrakhani Pass(3500 mts.) – Malana(2651 m) / 3-4 Hours trek

Trek to Malana over Chanderkhani Pass. The entire trek offers excellent views of snow- covered mountains and wide valleys. From the top one can see Bara Bangal range to the west, Pir Panjal to the north , and Parvati to the east. The descent to the village of Malana is steep when compare to the ascent to the pass.

Day 04) Malana – Manali / 80 Km / 03 hrs drive / o/n hotel

Morning visit Malana village and afternoon drive to Manali also visit Manikaran

Malana comprises two villages about a hundred yards apart. Village containing temple building is considered sacred and no one wearing leather shoes is allowed within its precincts.

There is no rule of law in Malana or any law enforcing authority. The village has its own laws. There has never been police in Malana. It is apparent the Malana people have no respect for outside authority. The laws just do not apply there.

Malana has a unique system of administration. In fact, it is said to be the oldest republic still existent in India or for that matter anywhere in the world. Villagers do not welcome outsiders out of the fear of loosing their closed culture.

The small town of Manikaran (45 km) is famous for its hot sulfur springs. It is located at an altitude of 1737 m in the Parvati River valley. These hot springs are famous for their healing powers. This place is both revered by the Hindus and the Sikhs. Travelers can visit the Shri Ramchandra Temple and the Shri Guru Nanak Devi Gurdwara in Manikaran.

Drive to Manali

Manali, one of India’s most famous hill stations, derives its name from Manu and Alaya, who came here for the renewal of the life after battling a deluge for forty days and nights. Manali (2050 mts.) is situated left bank of river Beas on the National Highway to Leh. This is the main town in the Kullu valley which is famous for its apples. Manali is also famous for adventure sports like trekking, mountaineering, paragliding skiing, hiking, mountain biking and rafting etc.
