This is one of the most tough trek leads from Parvati valley in Kullu valley to Pin valley in Spiti, Trail leads from Manikaran a pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Sikh, passing some of villages, forest, alpine meadows, mountain lake and glacier both side of the pass to Mud village, at the end of trek you will explore the remote spiti valley and its monasteries. Pin Parvati trek and it is always prepared to offer the most thrilling experience to each trekker. Risk and difficulty are common on Pin Parvati treks and the lengthy crossing fields between the surroundings and of course the heavy snowfall give the trek an adventurous notion every time. The maximum altitude en route is 5219 mts. above the sea level. The trek is carried out in the months of July to September and requires sound trekking knowledge and skills as well. The trek is a mixed bag of high gradients, gradual ascents, picturesque mountains, and beautiful passes.

Detail Itinerary :

 

Day 01) Manali – Manikaran ( Trek Starts to) -Pulga / Time 02 hrs drive and 03-04 hrs. trek

Trek to Pulga, Manikaran at 1700m is very popular religious place where people of all faiths comes to wish. Pulga 2100m is very famous among trekkers but mostly returns back. Small tea stalls and hotels are settled in apple orchards and are usually crowded with foreigners.

Day 02) Pulga-Kheer Ganga(2850m) /Time 04-05 hrs. trek

Trail gradually ascends to Kheer Ganga which is a scenic place and now supported by a " shelter" which is usually heavily crowded by foreigners. Kheer Ganga 2850m is a open meadow.


Day 03) Kheer Ganga-Tundabhoj (3200 m)  / Time 05 hrs. trek

 Steep ascend to the gorge. Valley then widens and trail crosses several beautiful pasturs supporting many types of wildflowers. There are some Gujjar/Gaddi shepherd emcampments and this will be last human settlement you will be watching. Tundabhoj is 3200m high pastur.

Day 04) Tundabhoj-Thakur Kuan (3400m) / Time 04-05 hrs. trek

Crossing through rocks and dense vegitation. You will see remains of Indian Army helicopter which crashes in high winds when trying to land-just toppled due to velocity of wind. Thakur Khan 3400m is above the cliffs.

Day 05) Thakur Khan-Mantalai Lake (4070m)/ Time 06-07 hrs. trek

You will be lucky if you could see any shepherd encampment. There is a natural bridge and is known as Pandu Bridge.Trail makes some ups and downs and then goes through flowered meadows. To reach Mantakal Lake 4070m, it is 200m of steep ascending over boulders which may not be tough for people who had some expereince but first timer may find learning lessons.

Day 06) Mantalai to Base camp I(4700 m) /  07 hrs. Trek

After leaving the beautiful campsite, cross two streams. After a one-hour walk on boulders and glacier, start climb towards the left in to a steep side valley. This is a very long, steep ascend of around 1600 feet, taking. The walk to the campsite is gradual, and is set in the open valley surrounded by massive of glaciers.

Day 07) Base Camp I to Base Camp II (4750 m) over Pin Parvati pass (5219 m) /08 hrs. Trek

Its long day so early start is advised, the gradual walk is initially mostly on the boulders then on glacier to the top of the pass. After crossing the pass entered in Spiti valley, the trail descends over the snow and ice field, covered crevasses (hidden crevasses) and then again loose rocks and boulders. There is no trail visible, you have to be very careful.

Day 08) Base to Wichkurung thatch (3900 m) / 06 hrs trek

Again the trail is not well defined, but you should keep on the left bank of the Pin river. Shepherds from Kinnaur and Rampur can be seen with their flocks. Beautiful view of mountain from the camp.

Day 09) Wichkurung Thatch to Mud (3600 m) / 06-07 hrs. trek,  trek ends here

The Pin valley is at its best. The trail gets better though you have to cross streams; so keep your sneakers in your day pack. Edelweiss, and other flowers can be seen in plenty. Changing color of the mountain is unique and in the evening sunlight makes the surrounding even more beautiful. Reached the small picturesque village of Mud, stroll around the little village, and gompa is set on a small hill.

Day 10)  Drive to Tabo (3550 m) via Pin Valley/Kungri  Monastery / 02 hrs. drive

Pin Valley / Kungri Monastery: The valley lies below the Kungri glacier. The Pin valley has a National Park, and is home to a variety of rare animals like the Ibex, Snow Lepord, Thar and Bharal. There are several monasteries in the valley but the most important one is Kungri. It is situated about 10 km from Attargo and 34 Km from Kaza. It built in 1330 AD. this houses old relics and painting and is the main centre of the Nyingma-pa sect in Spiti.

Reach Tabo and afternoon visit Monastery and Tabo Bazar

Tabo Monastery: It is situated 47 Km from Kaza and founded in 996 AD.by the great translator and teacher Rinchen Jangpo. It is a famous gompa next to Tholing Gompa in Tibet. The old section has 9 temples, 23 chorten, a monk’s chamber and a nun’s chamber. It has about 60 Lamas in residence. Wall paintings of this gompa have a great similarity to that of the Ajanta paintings- and are often called ‘Ajanta of the Himalaya’. There are natural caves aboves the monastery, which were an integral part of the 10th century monastic complex.

Day 11)  Drive to Kaza(3600 mts.) via Dhankar and Lalung Monastery / 03 hrs. drive

Dhankar Monastery(3890 mts.): It is located on top of a hill  about 25 kms. east of Kaza and 7 Km from Schichling National Highway in local parlance, a ‘dhankar’ is a fort. This was once the castle of the rular Spiti, the Nano.  On top of a hill there is a fort which uses to be the prison in olden times. Today it has about 150 lamas in residence, a collection of Buddhist scriptures, a 4 bodied  " Vairochana" (Dhayan Budha) , murals of Medicine Buddhas and protector deities.

Lalung Monastery: situated 22 Km from Kaza, village houses a small but somewhat unique monastery which is distinct for its heavily carved wooden Pennalling as for its seclusion.

Kaza(3600 mts.)  : Kaza is the sub-divisional headquarters of Spiti, situated on the left bank of river Spti on National Highway. This is the main market in the Spiti valley. It has all modern facilities and is connected by road with Manali & Shimla except in the winter months.

Day 12) Kaza sight seeing tour visit

Ki Monastery(4116 mts.): It is situated 12 km north of Kaza  above Ki village.  It is the oldest and biggest monastery of the valley. This monastery is said to be founded by Dromoton (1008-64 AD). It houses beautiful scriptures and paintings of Budha and other goddesses. It belongs to Geluk-pa school and Tibetan Buddhism and has about 300 lamas in residence.

Kibber(4205 m): it is situated 18 Km from Kaza and 11 km above from Ki Monastery, locally known as Khyipur. This is the one of the highest villages in the world at an altitude of 4205 mts.  There is also a Buddhist Gompa known as Yaktin Chuling. Gette village, at a short distance away from kaza, is the highest in the world with a height of 4270 m.

Day 13) Drive to Manali (2050 mts.) / 200 km./  09-10 hrs Drive           

After breakfast drive to Manali.

On the road from Kaza to Manali is Kunzam, a mountain pass at an attitude of 4551 meters, with a temple of Kunzam Devi. One can also trek from here to the famous and beautiful moon lake Chandratal (4070 m). Asia's biggest glaciers, Bada and Chotta Sigri, can be seen from here.

The Rohtang Pass, in the northern parts of India, is a site where one can view the most drastic of landscape variances. On one side, the lush green head of the Kullu Valley; to the other, an awesome vista of bare, brown mountains, hanging glaciers and snowfields that dazzle in the crisp light. The tough terrain here is the main reason behind its virginal landscapes and simple lifestyles.

Manali, one of India’s most famous hill stations, derives its name from Manu and Alaya, who came here for the renewal of the life after battling a deluge for forty days and nights. Manali (2050 mts.) is situated left bank of river Beas on the National Highway to Leh. This is the main town in the Kullu valley which is famous for its apples. Manali is also famous for adventure sports like trekking, mountaineering, paragliding skiing, hiking, mountain biking and rafting etc.
